Position description

The Department of Molecular & Medical Pharmacology (DMMP) and the Crump Institute for Molecular Imaging (CIMI) at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA are seeking applicants for an assistant professor in the tenure-track series. Although preference will be given to applicants at the Assistant Professor level, exceptional candidates at the level of Associate or Professor are also encouraged to apply.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemical Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related fields. Experience in the discovery process for disease targets and molecular imaging probes for target assays with Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is highly desirable. Candidates must have scholarly publications and postdoctoral or equivalent professional experience. Successful applicants are expected to have the ability and desire to integrate into efforts to develop new molecular imaging assays of the biology of disease, integrated with molecular therapeutics, in collaboration with colleagues in CIMI, DMMP and other UCLA Departments.

The programmatic appointment is as a member of the CIMI, the academic appointment is as a faculty member in the DMMP.

The CIMI (www.crump.ucla.edu) includes faculty with expertise and interests in molecular imaging, chemistry and radiochemistry, engineering physics, metabolomics, proteomics and systems biology. CIMI is a science and technology institute located in the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI, https://cnsi.ucla.edu/) building. CIMI and CNSI are partners with shared missions, and support one another. The CNSI building is surrounded by the physical, engineering, math, and basic biological sciences of the College and is ~100 ft. from the David Geffen School of Medicine.

The DMMP (www.pharmacology.ucla.edu) has faculty, graduate students, post docs, medical residents and clinical fellows from disciplines ranging from the subspecialties of the biological, physical and engineering sciences to the various medical and surgical specialties. The Ahmanson Translational Molecular Imaging Division of the DMMP contains both the academic and clinical diagnostic service of conventional Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT molecular imaging of the biology of disease. DMMP is both a basic science and a clinical department.

The CIMI and DMMP are integrated into a common program concept that provides a pathway from pre-clinical sciences in molecular diagnostics and drug discovery to clinical development to clinical service, all of which focus on the biology of disease.

The DMMP has two graduate student programs - A PhD program in Molecular Pharmacology: Diagnostics: Therapeutics & Biology of Disease, and the Molecular Imaging track of the Interdepartmental (IDP) Physics of Biology & Medicine PhD program (along with the departments of Radiology and Radiation Oncology). CIMI faculty also have graduate students from the department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, several UCLA engineering departments, and other graduate programs in the David Geffen School of Medicine and the Life Science Division of the College.

Candidates should apply via UC Recruit. Please submit a full CV and a letter of interest addressed to: Chair of the Search Committee (Chemical Biology), Crump Institute for Molecular Imaging, Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology, David Geffen School of Medicine. Applications should also include a description of research accomplishments (2-page maximum), a research plan appropriate for the position (2-page maximum), and a statement addressing past and/or potential contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion through research, teaching, and/or service. Applicants are encouraged to have three letters of recommendation sent to the same address. The position will remain open until filled.
