Description

The Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is seeking a Medical Director for UCLA Health , Clinical Epidemiology & Infection Prevention (CEIP). The Director will be appointed at the appropriate rank, e.g. Assistant, Associate or full Clinical Professor commensurate with his/her experience and productivity.

The CEIP Medical Director will collaborate with hospital and physician organization leaders to envision, develop, and implement the organization’s quality and patient safety plan as it pertains to infection prevention. The Director will also serve as Hospital Epidemiologist for UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center and Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital. The Director will teach students, residents and/or fellows.

RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Collaborate with the CE&IP System Director to provide clinical leadership and oversight;
b) Serve as the Chairperson of the Ronald Reagan Medical Center Infection Prevention Committee; serve as a member and vice-chair of the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital Infection Prevention Committee;
c) Provide medical leadership to Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) program;
d) Collaborate with leaders from the medical staff, management, infection preventionists, and the governing body in planning, measuring, improving infection prevention services, and decreasing infection rates;
e) Maintain HAI surveillance and communicate findings to UCLA Health leadership and appropriate regulatory agencies;
f) Review and assist Regulatory Affairs in establishing protocols to meet regulatory and accreditation requirements that pertain to HAI prevention [e.g. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), the Joint Commission, CDC, California Department of Public Health (CDPH)];
g) Advise and consult with hospital staff, inpatient and ambulatory nursing and physician leadership, and ancillary staff regarding the development and planning of infection prevention initiatives, and the review and recommendation of policies and procedures concerning each hospital unit;
h) Engage and coordinate with all disciplines of the hospital responsible for clinical care and factors that lead to infections, including but not limited to medical staff, inpatient and ambulatory nursing, pharmaceutical services, Environmental Service, Materials Management, and OR;
i) Educates clinicians, nurses, and other relevant staff on how to prevention infections through Grand Rounds, in-service training, direct instruction, or other means appropriate for the facility;
j) Participates in Division of Infectious Diseases clinical service, including both inpatient and outpatient clinical care
k) Participate in emerging infectious diseases response on-call duties as assigned and provide clinical care to EID patients (e.g. evaluations for Ebola, MERS);
