Position description

The UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability (IoES) invites applications for a position in the professional research series at the rank of Assistant Researcher without salary (WOS). Research emphasis will be on topics of statistical climatology and extreme events attribution. The successful candidate will lead research into the application of statistical methods to detection and attribution of climate change analysis at the continental scales or across the global vegetation. The research involves using Atmosphere-ocean coupled models, Earth system models and also ground and satellite-based observation datasets to identify and understand large-scale changes in the hydrologic cycle under climate change, with a particular focus on carbon and water cycle as an interconnected system.

Candidates must therefore have: 1) a PhD in Earth Science, 2) extensive knowledge of atmospheric and climate science, 3) demonstrable expertise in the quantitative analysis of atmospheric data, and 4) excellent written and verbal communication skills to develop publications from the research.
