Description

The University of California, Los Angeles invites applicants and nominations for a nationally recognized anesthesiologist to join the faculty of the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) as Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. As a preeminent clinician, scholar, and leader, the incumbent will be eligible for the Ronald L. Katz Endowed Chair in Anesthesiology.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences and the Dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM), the Chair works collaboratively with clinical, academic, and administrative leaders to establish and execute the strategic vision of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine within the greater medical enterprise. The Chair is responsible for advancing the Department’s mission of excellence in clinical care, education, research, and community engagement through the oversight of clinical operations, financial management, staffing, performance improvement, faculty recruitment, the development of educational programs, and the strengthening of community partnerships. In addition, the Chair cultivates a collegial, multidisciplinary culture consistent with the principles of the DGSOM’s Cultural North Star, providing mentorship to faculty members while promoting clinical quality, safety, and operational distinction.

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at UCLA consistently ranks among the top departments nationally, with over 150 faculty members spanning a diversity of clinical sub-specialties. The Department is recognized for its outstanding contributions to clinical, translational, and basic sciences research, with 3 Endowed Chairs and Professorships, and over $8M in research funding from the National Institutes of Health. Owing to the University’s tradition of multidisciplinary research and collaboration in education, the Department provides a rich environment for academic achievement. Reflecting this spirit, the Department enjoys a productive affiliation with several community hospitals, including Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (HUMC), Olive View-UCLA Medical Center (OVMC), the Greater Los Angeles Veterans Administration Medical Center (GLA VAMC), as well as Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA) and Long Beach Memorial Hospital.

The ideal candidate is a distinguished anesthesiologist with a strong record of accomplishments in clinical care, research education, and service and an aptitude for collaboration in a complex environment. The incumbent will combine an exceptional clinical acumen with superb communication skills and a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. All candidates must hold an MD or equivalent, board certification, appropriate academic credentials for a tenured faculty appointment, and be eligible for licensure in California.

Confidential inquiries, nominations, or submissions of interest (a curriculum vitae and informative personal statement) are invited and will be considered until an appointment is made:
