The UCLA Department of Social Welfare in the Meyer and Renee Luskin School of Public Affairs invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor faculty position with an expected start date of July 1, 2020. Candidates whose experience in research, teaching, and community service has prepared them to contribute to excellence and diversity are encouraged to apply. We seek a scholar who studies technology and health/mental health across the lifespan. This includes, but is not limited to, the examination of issues concerning technology-based behavior change; the effects of technology and social media on health/mental health; social welfare interventions that leverage digital technology to promote behavioral health and wellbeing (e.g., tele-health, mHealth); technology-based skills training for social workers; information technology and health/mental health care delivery. Both policy- and practice-oriented scholars in the area of technology and health/mental health will be considered for the position.
UCLA is consistently ranked among the top research universities across the nation and around the world. The Department of Social Welfare is advantageously situated in the interdisciplinary Luskin School of Public Affairs along with highly ranked departments of Urban Planning and Public Policy. We are one of the nation’s most diverse departments of social welfare, and were recently ranked third in scholarly impact among all 76 doctoral degree granting social work/social welfare programs. Our current full-time programs include: doctorate (Ph.D.) in social welfare, masters in social welfare and bachelor of arts in public affairs. Both the Department and the Luskin School are experiencing dynamic growth. In addition, our Department has a 65-year tradition of educating and serving ethnically and culturally diverse urban populations.
For this Assistant Professor position, we seek an individual with:
• A demonstrated potential for substantial scholarly impact in social welfare and related fields.
• A successful record of teaching at any university level and the potential for strong mentoring at the doctoral level. Ability to teach courses in our MSW's Health/Mental Health across the Lifespan area of concentration and our newly launched undergraduate major in public affairs.
• A deep understanding of diversity and social justice issues embedded in teaching, research, and mentoring.
• A commitment to collaborative relationships across the Department, School, University, and other institutions.
• A demonstrated potential for leadership in department and university life.
• A demonstrated record of applying for external and internal grants, including through federal sources such as NIH, NSF, IES, foundations and other funders, such as State and local agencies.
Basic qualifications to be considered for the position:
• Applicants must have earned a PhD prior to July 1st 2020 in Social Work/Social Welfare or a related field.
• An MSW degree is strongly preferred.
