Position description

The Department of Asian Languages & Cultures (http://www.alc.ucla.edu/) at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), invites applications for a position in Medieval Chinese Studies, at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor. This position will begin on July 1, 2020.

The position seeks a scholar in Medieval Chinese Studies with an emphasis on literature and culture of the Tang/Song and/or early Medieval period (220-589). Applicants whose work engages with material culture, religion, gender, and/or ethnic studies are particularly encouraged to apply. Training in comparative and interdisciplinary methodologies, as well as an ability to work across the cultural regions in the medieval world, are highly desirable.

The successful candidate will be expected to sustain an active research and publication schedule, teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, provide service to the department and campus, and demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity-related teaching, research, and/or service. Women and minority candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants are expected to have a PhD in hand by the time of appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience.
