Position description

As part of a major expansion, the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science at UCLA is conducting a search for faculty candidates in disciplines related to mechanical engineering with emphasis on sustainability and on controls. Areas of particularly high interest in sustainability include: food, water, energy (including nuclear fusion), and ocean/marine engineering. Focus areas in controls include, but are not limited to: networked systems, autonomous systems, nonlinear and uncertain systems, and related mathematical or data science approaches and methods. Our hiring priorities focus on the frontiers of mechanical engineering research and the demonstrated potential for building a strong program of high impact and originality. We are interested in outstanding candidates who are committed to excellence in teaching and scholarship and to contributing positively to a diverse campus climate.

These positions require a Ph.D. or equivalent in engineering or a closely related discipline at date of hire.

UCLA is a dynamic urban university with a strong commitment to collaborative excellence and engaged in numerous research collaborations, both within the Engineering school and with a spectrum of departments and programs at UCLA (including the Medical and Dental Schools a short campus walk away), across the UC system, with other universities, and across industrial sectors.
