Position description

ADJUNCT PROFESSOR IN IRANIAN MUSIC - ETHNOMUSICOLOGY DEPTARTMENT
The Department of Ethnomusicology in the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music invites applications for an Adjunct Professor position in Iranian Music. An Adjunct Professor rank at UCLA is equivalent to a Visiting Professor at most other institutions. The rank of the appointment is open. The position will be for one year with the possibility of annual renewal, subject to satisfactory performance, up to a total of three years.

The position requires a candidate with dynamic vision to provide instruction in Iranian music. The scope of teaching will include traditional music in historical and contemporary contexts, popular culture, and issues such as gender, politics and diaspora. Candidates should show great potential in terms of critical scholarship and publications. They should have the skills, imagination and, ideally, experience to offer innovative courses on Iranian music in Iran, and related regions. Ability as a performer is not required but would be an additional asset. Candidates should be able to engage at the level of research and teaching with UCLA’s vibrant and diverse student population.
All applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology or related field, with a required 2-3 years teaching experience in higher education. The candidate will be responsible for the administration of the new minor in Iranian music, so demonstrated administrative capabilities are preferred.

Applications must be submitted to the UCLA Recruit website at:
https://recruit.apo.ucla.edu/apply/JPF05310
Candidates should submit: a cover letter stating interest in the position, a comprehensive curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, and a statement of contribution to diversity.
