Position description

The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music’s Department of Ethnomusicology invites applications for a part-time lecturer position in Music of African Americans for Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters of the 2020-21 academic year.

Candidates must have advanced expertise in group and solo performance of a diverse mixture of gospel music beginning with Negro spirituals and including traditional gospel and contemporary gospel. University teaching experience preferred. Candidate will be expected to direct performance ensembles and teach lecture classes and seminars related to African American music. The position also requires expertise in developing curriculum, in addition to interact with the African American community on various cultural and educational initiatives, PhD in ethnomusicology or related field is required.

Candidates should submit: a cover letter stating interest in the position, a comprehensive curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, and a statement of contribution to diversity. Applicants may consider including online video links representing their teaching although doing so is not required.
