Position description

Assistant Project Scientist
Department of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology

Nature of the research:
· Research to develop targeted epigenome editing tools for crop improvement.
· Research to develop tools for the delivery of genome and epigenome editing reagents in plants.
· Working with Arabidopsis thaliana as a model species.

Role and Responsibilities:
· Designing experiments and implementing research projects.
· Generating next-generation sequencing (NGS) libraries and analyzing the bioinformatics data.
· Managing and mentoring a team comprising of technician and undergraduate researchers.
· Collaborating across multiple projects within the laboratory and internationally.
· Communicating research findings within the laboratory and internationally.
· Writing papers, grant proposals, and generating publication quality figures.

Experience and qualifications required:
· Ph. D. in plant molecular biology or plant virology with a focus on gene regulation in plants during pathogen infection.
· 5 years or more of postdoctoral experience at a high-level research laboratory in the field of plant epigenetics, epigenome editing and plant virology.
· Experience in working with Zinc finger and various types of CRISPR-CAS9 systems in plants.
· Proficiency in techniques such as WGBS, RNA-seq, and techniques involved in plant-pathogen interaction.
· A publication track record in high-quality academic journals in the fields of plant-pathogen interaction and epigenome editing.
· Extensive experience with a command-line interface, computing clusters, and proficiency with R is preferred.
· Evidence of excellent communication skills from presentations at national and international conferences.
