The Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences and Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA seek to hire a full-time faculty member in the Professor-in-Residence series, at the advanced Assistant, Associate or early Full Professor level, to serve as the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technology and Analysis Core Director in the Center for Cognitive Neurosciences (CCN). The successful applicant will take a leadership role in creation and development of an MRI analysis core, and will work with faculty active in MRI research from across the campus to develop and implement cutting-edge analysis approaches.
The CCN has a research-dedicated Siemens Prisma MRI, as well as several EEG, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and Low Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound (LIFUP) device that are open for use by the UCLA imaging community. The candidate will be responsible for technical direction of the MRI, including overseeing MRI safety and image quality as well as the ability to troubleshoot and identify problems. The candidate will also train students and colleagues in MRI analysis, oversee staff to provide analysis resources for faculty, and keep fully abreast of the latest MRI analysis approaches in structural MRI, functional MRI, and DTI such as network analysis, deep learning, etc. This position requires daily interaction with MRI investigators across campus and thus requires outstanding interpersonal skills and a strong record of successful collaborations with multiple investigators. As a faculty member, the candidate will have their own research program and will be able to mentor graduate students in several programs including the Interdepartmental Program in Neuroscience.
The candidate should have substantial experience in MRI technology, acquisition and data analysis including a background or demonstrated knowledge in physics or engineering, with a terminal degree (Ph.D., M.D., D.Phil. or equivalent degree) in any field that includes MRI acquisition and analysis expertise. All applicants must provide evidence of scholarly impact through publications, history of federal grant funding, excellence in teaching, and strong oral and written communication skills.
