UCLA’s Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics is seeking to fill an Assistant Project Scientist position. The Assistant Project Scientist candidate will perform independent research on the area of structural biology and infectious diseases.
The Assistant Project Scientist will also be responsible for supervising junior members in the lab and coordinating inter-lab collaboration projects. The Assistant Project Scientist position is a 12-month non-Senate position.

Specific Responsibilities include:
The design and execution of experimental studies on infectious disease-related structural biology and developing new therapies, supervising junior lab members of a group with diverse training backgrounds, and coordinating inter-lab collaborative projects. This position requires a Ph.D. in biology, biophysics and a minimum of five years of experiences working in atomic structures and functional studies of complexes involved in human diseases.
• Oversee technicians, undergraduates, graduate students and postdoctoral trainees in the lab.
• Coordinate inter-lab collaboration projects.
• Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively.
• Ability to work independently on scientific projects.
• Assist with preparation of grant proposals.
• Preparation of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
• Required to communicate well with other scientists worldwide.
• Candidate should have at least 8-years research experience in structural biology, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology in an academic setting or equivalent.
• Candidate should have prior training and direct experience working with Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM), preferentially instruments of Thermo-Fisher TF20/T20 and Titan Krios.
• The candidate will report directly to the Principal Investigator and will successfully carry out experiments and analyze data generated with minimal supervision.
• The candidate will be required to complete all appropriate safety training as mandated by the campus’s Environmental Health & Safety Office
