Position description

The Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine-Division of Molecular Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles invites applications for an Assistant Project Scientist. The laboratory, located within the CHS and directed by Professor Riccardo Olcese, addresses research topics related to ion channels physiology and biophysics as well as their roles in cell excitability. The applicant should have a MD or Ph.D. degree in Biology, Physiology, Physics or related fields with strong expertise in ion channels biophysics and electrophysiological recordings in oocytes and primary cells. Expertise in molecular biology for cloning and mutagenesis is also necessary.

Several years of postdoctoral experience are required. The incumbent must demonstrate his/her creative contributions to research in the form of peer-reviewed manuscripts and successful extramural funding. The incumbent will be responsible for contributing and conducting cutting-edge research using state-of-the-art electrophysiological and optical methods (voltage-clamp fluorometry) to address mechanistic questions about ion channels function, in relation to cardiac arrhythmia and/or muscle contraction. The incumbent is expected to work independently in the design, execution, and troubleshooting of experiments.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

MD or Ph.D. degree in Biology, Physiology, Physics or related fields with strong expertise in ion channels biophysics and electrophysiological recordings in oocytes and primary cells. Expertise in molecular biology for cloning and mutagenesis is also necessary.
