Position description

Dr. A. Janet Tomiyama, Director of the DIeting, Stress, and Health (DiSH) lab in the Department of Psychology at UCLA is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral scholar position funded by an NIH grant on food insecurity, cortisol, and metabolic risk. The broad objectives of the lab include using the biopsychosocial model to understand eating behavior and metabolic risk, with a special emphasis on psychobiological stress processes.

A successful candidate will perform the following essential functions:

● Collaborate with Principal Investigator and graduate students to achieve the Specific Aims of the grant
● Meet regularly with the research team
● Assist the PI in optimizing the research protocol
● Oversee human subjects’ approval and ensure that the highest ethical standards are followed
● Provide training and mentorship to graduate students and undergraduate research assistants
● Identify, recruit, and retain eligible participants
● Data management
● Data analyses and interpretation
● Prepare drafts of manuscripts
● Assist PI with management and reporting of the study budget and annual reports

A successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

● Required: PhD, preferably in Psychology
● Required: Experience with the Trier Social Stress Test
● Preferred: Interest in food insecurity and/or health disparities as a research topic
● Required: Excellent oral and written communication skills
● Required: Proficiency in statistical analysis for repeated measures and within-subject designs
● Required: Have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both orally and in writing

This is a full-time position with competitive salary and benefits.

We will begin reviewing applications on June 1, 2021 and intend to fill the position as soon as a suitable candidate is found. The start date is flexible.
