Under the supervision of the Undergraduate Research Center (URC)-Sciences Director, the Assistant Director is the primary manager and advisor for five undergraduate research and training programs: the Biomedical Sciences Enrichment Program (BISEP: a full time 6-week research training program for underrepresented students), the Clare Boothe Luce Scholars (a two year program for women in physical sciences and engineering), i2URP (a two year program for students interested in research careers that includes quarterly journal clubs), UC LEADS ( a UC-wide two year program for first generation physical sciences and engineering students) and the Summer Programs for Undergraduate Research or SPUR. The Assistant Director teaches the seminars focused on leadership and science communication for UC LEADS students. Teaching duties also includes a summer writing workshop series for SPUR, and molecular biology lectures and laboratory curriculum design and implementation for BISEP. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with staff to plan and implement campus events that showcase undergraduate research and promote research entry on the campus. Ultimately, the focus of this position is to support research experiences for undergraduates, including outreach, counseling and management of introductory and advanced research opportunities. Some grant writing and program assessment is required.
A doctoral degree in the sciences and post-doctoral research experience are essential. University-level teaching experience required. The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience in student mentoring. We are looking for someone with the ability to work collegially with faculty and staff; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; excellent written and presentation skills.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position salary range is $72,015 to $75,542.
Position remains open until filled. This is a full-time (100% time) position, with a projected September 2021 start date.
