Highly qualified applications may also be considered for appointment at the Associate Researcher level. The researcher will be associated with the Basic Plasma Science Facility (BaPSF) at UCLA, a DOE and NSF funded national user facility for fundamental plasma science. The duties of the position include the performance of an independent research program using the facility and direct support of the operation of the user facility (which may include maintenance of hardware/software infrastructure, design and implementation of state-of-the-art facility improvements, and assisting external users with the execution of their experiments). The appointee is expected to disseminate research results through publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations at conferences.

The Professional Researcher series at UCLA is an academic career position for appointees who engage in independent research and grow into a role of scientific leadership (https://www.apo.ucla.edu/policies-forms/the-call/professional-research-series/professional-research-series-1
Qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field, and a demonstrated background directly relevant to the duties described above. Ideally, the candidate should have a few years of related work experience following receipt of a Ph.D. Experience with design, fabrication, and operation of experimental apparatus, plasma diagnostics, and/or high-power electronics relevant to a mid-scale plasma experimental facility is highly desirable. Candidates should provide: a curriculum vitae; a statement of research interests; a publication list; a statement of contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion; and should arrange for 2-3 letters of reference to be uploaded to UCLA Academic Recruit. For full consideration, applications should be received by December 1, 2021. However, applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
