The Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance (WACD) in the School of the Arts and Architecture at UCLA invites applications for a tenure-track (Assistant or Associate Professor) position specializing in choreography/dance. The ideal candidate has an active choreographic profile, is committed to time-based performance as a form, and is preferably working from a perspective and practice not currently represented by the existing tenured faculty in our department. Responsibilities could include teaching composition courses at the graduate and undergraduate level, introductory dance studies courses, practice classes, participation on graduate committees, student advising, service at the departmental and university level, and contributions to other activities necessary to the pursuit of an artistic career, and to the ongoing sustainability of the department.
The WACD Department offers a BA in Dance, a BA in World Arts and Cultures, an MFA in Choreographic Inquiry and a PhD in Culture and Performance. The candidate should be able to serve students in these degree programs, embracing the connection between practice and theory, between written scholarship and movement based art-making. In addition to maintaining an active profile in artistic practice, we seek candidates who are committed to public higher education and who will actively contribute to the Department and University by fostering and supporting an equitable campus community that is diverse in cultural and other backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints. We actively encourage assistant-level applications. To ensure full consideration, candidates should have a terminal Degree (MFA or PhD in related field) or equivalent professional experience of 4 years or more, and apply by January 1, 2022.
