UCLA Library seeks a highly collaborative, knowledgeable, and innovative individual to serve as Humanities and Social Sciences Librarian / Coordinator of Library Student Research Assistants.
Reporting to the Director of Rosenfeld Library and Charles E. Young Research Library Humanities and Social Sciences division, the Humanities and Social Sciences Librarian / Coordinator of Library Student Research Assistants (LSRAs) provides leadership in teaching and learning for both graduates and undergraduates. In collaboration with colleagues across the Library, the librarian will contribute to investigating and building just and diverse education practices to support research, education, and service, particularly for the School of Education, and other liaison assignments to be determined. All User Engagement Librarians support instruction and research assistance for scholars at all levels and in multiple disciplines. Additionally, this position coordinates approximately 3-4 Library Student Research Assistants (LSRAs) including hiring & training, assigning work hours, providing research support, and coordinating special projects.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Provides instruction in the humanities and social sciences, both at the undergraduate and the graduate level, with specific attention to the methodologies frequently used in education and related disciplines;
- Serves as a liaison to departments including Education;
- Provides research assistance in-person and online to a diverse patron community;
- Develops and maintains relationships with campus partners in collaboration with library colleagues;
- Creatively solves challenges and takes risks to develop next-generation information services and collections across disciplines and with campus partners;
- Maintains awareness of changes and trends within relevant disciplines and campus programs;
- Participates in outreach events and activities grounded in teaching, research, creative and civic engagement and that demonstrate a commitment to including diverse voices;
- Actively contributes leadership to the User Engagement Research Functional Team; and
- Works with Library Development to identify, cultivate, and steward donors, collections, and endowed gift funds.

The incumbent will contribute to a positive work culture and excellent services of the User Engagement division at the Library furthering substantive engagements with the campus. To succeed in this multi-faceted role, the incumbent will need to be team-oriented, with the ability to both lead and support colleagues.
Professional librarians at UCLA are academic appointees. Librarians at UCLA are represented by an exclusive bargaining agent, University Council – American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT). This is a represented position. Appointees to the librarian series at UC shall have professional backgrounds that demonstrate a high degree of creativity, teamwork, and flexibility. Such background will normally include a professional degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science graduate program. In addition to professional competence and quality of service within the library in the primary job, advancement in the librarian series requires professional involvement and contributions outside of the library, and/or university and community service, and/or scholarly activities. Description of Unit
User Engagement/Unified Access Services (UE/UAS) unites public services librarians and staff across four major divisions (Sciences; Arts, Music, and Powell; and Management/Humanities and Social Sciences; and Access Services) and five functional teams (Anti-Racism, Collections, Outreach, Research, and Teaching and Learning).The UE/UAS group is a matrixed organization designed to enhance library services through a cross-disciplinary and cross-functional approach.
The Management/Humanities and Social Sciences division is comprised of librarians and staff from two library locations. The unit supports research and teaching in the humanities and social sciences at all levels, including specialized collections and services for anthropology, business/management, education, English, economics, history, political science, sociology, etc. The team consists of 9 FTE librarians, 2 FTE library assistants, and 4-5 LSRAs.

Basic Qualifications (required at time of application)
- ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library or Information Science OR significant graduate-level coursework toward such a degree OR equivalent education and experience (subject expertise combined with professional library education and/or experience), particularly in education.
