Position description

UCLA Extension is considered one of the top programs of its kind, offering to more than 35,000 students per year approximately 4,500 classes and non-degree certificate programs to meet the professional development, continuing education and personal enrichment needs of the full spectrum of nontraditional students as well as companies and organizations throughout and beyond the Los Angeles region.

Under the direct supervision of the Department Director, the Continuing Educator I (CE I), as Program Director of the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counseling Certificate, shares academic and administrative responsibility for the development, implementation, marketing, fiscal management, ongoing evaluation, academic quality, and supervision of the program. The CE I should be a content expert in alcohol and drug abuse counseling, with practical experience in the field.

The incumbent monitors changing trends in the job market, keeps abreast of professional guidelines, and forms partnerships to maintain, develop, and implement new courses and programs within the purview of his/her portfolio. Recruitment and evaluation of diverse and qualified instructors is a priority, in addition to planning and leading advisory board meetings and student orientations.
This position will work 25% of the time (10 hours per week) mostly remote with the occasional in-person activity

Qualifications:

  1. An advanced degree in a relevant field, such as PhD/PsyD in Clinical Psychology, Masters in Family Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, Behavioral Health Counseling, or related.
  2. Vast experience in substance use disorder counseling.
  3. Experience in program design, implementation, and evaluation of continuing education and professional development programs.
  4. Ability to develop creative, continuing education courses within an entrepreneurial framework, in response to changing needs and trends in the field of alcohol and drug use counseling.
  5. Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills. Ability to communicate and collaborate, as a peer, with faculty, professional association members, community leaders, and University Extension colleagues. Specific strengths in building partnerships among constituent groups is required.
  6. Experience in an academic environment.
  7. Knowledge and facility with computers, leading word-processing and financial management software. Ability to function effectively within an electronic-network, office environment.
  8. Ability to write clear and effective academic language. Experience in report and proposal writing.
  9. Experience, or understanding of, distance learning methods and techniques for adult education using online learning formats. Ability to use multimedia software and tools in the development of online courses and formats.
  10. Ability to work successfully with a highly diverse staff and student population.
  11. Maintain active and positive relationships with Community Health Sciences in the School of Public Health.
  12. Experience in developing, implementing, maintaining, and analyzing program assessments.
