About the Job

  • Full Time, One Year Appointment (including summer) with a possibility of an extension beyond one year
  • Paid via UCLA Salary

  • Reports to Dr. Yalda Uhls

Roles and Responsibilities
This position is a one year commitment tied to a grant but with additional responsibilities beyond managing the grant deliverables. This is a good role for someone who does not expect to pursue a tenure track and/or teach. The job sits at the intersection of research and translation, with a specific focus on content creators.

  • Manage development of a toolkit (i.e. tip sheets, workshops, etc.) focused on how storytellers can incorporate evidence based practices into narratives that teach the character virtues of humility, curiosity and gratitude.
  • Supervise fellows (graduate students) on original and commissioned research projects.
  • Work with research coordinator (part time) to develop systems to track research projects and report progress to team.
  • Work with team to translate research into findings that will resonate with industry.
  • Work with team on the distribution and marketing of the research reports and other tools.
  • Attend meetings on behalf of Dr. Uhls as requested.
  • Attend team meetings as needed.

Experience Needed

  • PhD in psychology, communications, public health or education
  • Translational expertise (e.g. able to take peer reviewed research and make it useful for non-academic audiences)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills for both scientific and lay audiences
  • Statistical expertise and strong knowledge of SPSS
  • Media industry expertise a plus
  • Adolescent development expertise a plus
  • Diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility and mental health expertise a plus
