Position description

The Laboratory of Autophagy and Integrative Physiology in the Department of Medicine, Division of Digestive Diseases at UCLA is seeking a full time Postdoctoral Scholar to understand the brain regions that sense lipids and the mechanisms by lipids are sensed in the CNS, and how these signals are integrated with peripheral energy and lipid metabolism. The Postdoctoral Scholar will also engage in circadian studies to assess how changing meal timing impacts systemic lipid and energy metabolism. The Postdoctoral Scholar will apply complementary approaches including collection of brains and processing them via iDISCO and visualizing regions via confocal microscopy. Additional approaches will include bulk and scRNAseq in the CNS and peripheral tissues to broadly understand downstream mechanisms of lipid sensing. The position will offer excellent opportunity to advance career path and to train in various biochemical, imaging-based, and physiological approaches, and provide training to various junior students and fellows in the lab.

The applicant will work directly with Rajat Singh, MD, MBBS, and an array of faculty collaborators across UCLA, and beyond. There will be many opportunities to lead high impact publications and working with a diverse, collaborative, and a highly motivated research team. Extensive mentorship will be provided to facilitate the transition to an independent research career.

The Postdoctoral Scholar's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Isolating brains and applying clarity methods to visualize lipid sensing regions in the brain
• Using various biochemical approaches to understand circadian mechanisms regulating metabolism.
• Assisting in establishing the various dietary intervention models tested in the lab.
• Confocal and super-resolution microscopy.
• Analyses of data, preparation of manuscripts, and presentations of findings at meetings, etc.
• Training junior lab members.

Required Qualifications:
A Ph.D. with a minimum of 3-4 years of postdoctoral research experience. Candidates with some experience in autophagy and an understanding of systemic metabolism will be preferred. Candidate with some experiences in these approaches will receive top priority.
