Position description

The UCLA Department of Radiation Oncology at the David Geffen School of Medicine is recruiting a highly motivated individual at the Assistant, Associate or Professor rank for the faculty position of a translational physician scientist at our Westwood site. The individual should be interested in leading efforts to bridge translational science research with clinical applications for cancer care, radiomics, genomics, immunology, computation-based medicine, and proteomics or bioinformatics. The ideal candidate will foster the growth and development of a cutting-edge cancer research program and work to build future success in cancer care and research. The successful candidate will have approximately 20% time practicing clinical medicine and 80% time in lab and or research activities.

The Department of Radiation Oncology offers cutting edge radiation treatment options across all service lines. Our unique basic science division is nationally recognized for research in tumor immunity, tumor metabolics, genetic biomarkers for cancer, and radiation mitigation, complemented by our diverse range of clinical trials. Our medical physics division is known for innovations in image guided radiation therapy, adaptive radiation therapy, quality assurance, optimization, and building a state-of-the-art patient outcomes registry system.

The Department of Radiation Oncology currently has four sites: a main campus equipped with three conventional linear accelerators (Varian TrueBeam, Novalis Tx, and TomoTherapy HD) and the ViewRay MRI-guided IMRT linear-accelerator-based MRIdian system, a second campus in Santa Monica equipped with Varian TrueBeam and Varian STX accelerators, a third campus in Santa Clarita with a Varian Ethos, and a fourth campus in downtown Los Angeles with a Varian EX. The main campus is currently installing a Siemens Drive Dual-Source CT simulator and Siemens Sola 1.5T MR simulator. We also have an active Brachytherapy program that employs Varian and Elekta HDR systems and the Mobius AIRO portable CT scanner. EBRT treatment Planning systems include Eclipse, iPlan, TomoTherapy, Brainlab Elements, and ViewRay supported with MiM and ARIA record and verify.

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary academic faculty leader interested in promoting a culture of collaboration across disciplines both within the department as well as inter-departmentally. Candidates should have a strong record of leadership, clinical excellence, and demonstrated commitment to translational research. A record of scientific research productivity and research funding are desired. Applicants must possess an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree to apply. Applicants must also be eligible for California medical licensure, and be board-eligible or board certified in radiation oncology. This position is open in the Health Sciences or In-Residence series commensurate with experience.
