Position Description
We seek an experienced scientist to advance our research at the University of California, Los Angeles Department of Neurology, in the laboratory of Peyman Golshani, MD/PhD.

Dr. Golshani’s lab uses calcium and voltage imaging as well optogenetics to study circuits driving autism related social behavioral abnormalities in mouse models of autism. We hope to discover key network hubs that can be manipulated to improve social interactions. The candidate will perform experiments using miniaturized microscopy and optogenetics to study social reward related circuits. They will supervise other postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.

Specific Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of this position include study design, data acquisition, statistical computation, and literature review and manuscript/grant preparation. This includes ability to work with the PI to monitor several different mouse colonies, surgical procedures stereotaxic viral injections, miniaturized microscope lens implantation, optogenetic canula implantations, performance of social behaviors while performing imaging and optogenetics. The candidate will perform data analysis, statistics, generate figures and write abstracts and papers.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in the following areas: calcium imaging in deep structures with miniaturized microscopy, optogenetics in freely behaving animals, behavioral analysis using DeeplabCut or related software, data analysis using miniaturized microscopy analysis software.
Prior experience with mouse models of autism preferred.

Additional Duties
• Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively.• Ability to work independently on scientific projects• Required to communicate well with other scientists.• Candidate should have 5 years research experience in neuroscience in an academic setting or equivalent. • The candidate will report directly to the Principal Investigator and will successfully carry out experiments and analyze the data generated with minimal supervision.
