Position description

Position: Postdoctoral fellow position in functional genomics of neuronal-glial mechanism and drug targets for neurodegenerative dementias. Rexach Lab, UCLA Neurology, Neurogenetics, Human Genetics.

Job Description: Seeking an outstanding applicant with strong research track-record for a competitive post-doctoral fellowship in functional genomics of neurodegenerative disease in the Rexach Lab in the UCLA department of Neurology and Human Genetics. The Rexach group uses integrative multiomics analysis, including single nuclear ATAC and RNA sequencing, to identify glial and immune-related drivers of neurodegenerative dementias, and then studies their function in disease model systems, including human iPSC-derived spheroids. The goal of this work is to identify and validate new therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative dementias, including Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, none of which have effective cures or treatments. This fellow would lead a single-cell and integrative bioinformatics study to identify both disorder-specific and disorder-convergent glial drivers and mechanisms of neurodegeneration, and complete functional validation and drug target identification using stem cell-derived models.

Requirements:
The candidate will have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree.

Job Duties: Bioinformatics analyses of single nuclear RNA and ATAC sequencing data, multi-omics integration, network-based driver analysis, and genomic analyses. Design and execute functional validation experiments using human stem cell-derived neuronal-glial models. Prepare high-quality manuscripts to report research findings. Present at national and international meetings. Fully participate in research group meetings and activities. Participate in training junior students and colleagues within the Rexach lab. Excellent coordination and communication with collaborators. Data management, accountability, and post-publication code and data sharing.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities needed for the position: Proficiency in utilizing bioinformatics codes, packages and resources in R is required. Ability to code in R and/or Python are preferred. Experience in basic statistics in required. Experience in advanced statistics for omics research is preferred. Experience in transcriptomics, genomics, proteomics, or related analyses, are preferred. Experience in designing, executing and publishing scientific research is required. Interest and experience with methods development is preferred. Experience in writing first-author scientific manuscripts is required. Strong desire to learn, innovate, discover and collaborate are required. Respect for all colleagues and community is expected and required. Effective January 1, 2023, California Senate Bill 1162 (SB 1162) requires employers to disclose pay scales on all position postings. This law applies to all academic recruitments and positions.
