Faculty Position in Bioinformatics and Data Science in the Department of Neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA

The Department of Neurosurgery in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA invites applications for a faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor In-residence. We are particularly interested in candidates who will be able to develop biomedical informatics, data science, artificial intelligence, and digital health solutions to address unmet needs for patients with brain tumors, traumatic brain injury, cerebrovascular disease, hydrocephalus, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, spinal disorders, and other neurosurgical problems.We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. *Individuals with a history of and commitment to mentoring students who underrepresented are encouraged to apply

The individual will be associated with the NCI-funded Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) in Brain Cancer and the California state-funded Brain Injury Research Center (BIRC) and will be expected to build a departmental strategic plan and technical data science infrastructure that will lead to scholarly NIH-funded translational research projects. This faculty member will also participate in the training of graduate students, medical students, and neurosurgery residents/fellows. The Department of Neurosurgery has a commitment to translational, collaborative pre-clinical to clinical research that will transform neurosurgical patient care.

Qualifications:
Applications are welcomed from those with doctoral degrees (PhD, MD, or equivalent) in a relevant field, who are actively engaged and extramurally funded research projects that develop fundamental data science methodologies involving machine learning, artificial intelligence, and signal processing techniques that may be able to translate recent advances in data science and artificial intelligence to active translational/clinical research relevant to the discipline of neurosurgery, while addressing the computational challenges that arise when doing so.
