Position title: Assistant Designated Institutional Official for Graduate Medical Education

Position description

**This position will be open only to UCLA faculty.

Overview:
The Assistant DIO for Graduate Medical Education at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA will develop and cultivate an inclusive culture of teaching excellence and professional development within the community of GME trainees and faculty at UCLA.

Primary responsibilities include developing and executing strategies that enhance the teaching skills of the faculty and GME trainees. In addition, the Assistant DIO will liaise with the Associate Dean for Faculty Development to create programming that supports the faculty in their efforts to develop their teaching skills. The Assistant DIO will work directly with residents and fellows in all of the ACGME-accredited programs at UCLA, as well as with program directors in these training programs. In addition, the Assistant DIO may participate in teaching or training faculty in concert with the other members of the medical education leadership.

The Assistant DIO is expected to manage resources (funds, space and faculty) to support programs, so as to ensure their quality, maintain appropriate accreditation, and be responsive to the needs of the faculty and trainees. This position is available for up to a 25% time commitment.

Reporting:
The Assistant DIO reports directly to the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and works collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Faculty Development.

Duties:

  1. Develop regular programming to enhance the teaching skills of faculty and GME trainees. Work with the Associate Dean for Faculty Development to disseminate this programming broadly with a goal to build a culture of teaching excellence throughout the medical school faculty.
  2. Organize and lead 2-3 annual conferences for GME trainees, Program Directors and other program leadership with a goal of fostering an active and supportive GME community.
  3. Organize and lead the annual Chief Resident Conference to develop the teaching skills among resident leaders.
  4. Participate in, develop, and/or help coordinate the planning and execution of the recurring cycle of academic events including but not limited to: a. Incoming trainee orientation b. Annual program and institutional evaluations
  5. Foster a safe, healthy, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for students and trainees in order to maximize both personal and professional development.
  6. Promote and model principles of the DGSOM Cultural North Star (https://medschool.ucla.edu/cultural-north-star).

Minimum Requirements:
· M.D. degree required, and appointment in a UCLA faculty series (regular, in-residence, clinical X, health sciences clinical, adjunct).
· At least 2 years’ experience in medical school administration and/or educational leadership positions
· Excellent organizational and managerial skills
· Outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal skills
· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work with members of the academic and clinical community
· Strong service orientation and commitment to teamwork
