Position description

The UCLA Department of Public Policy is receiving applications until filled for part-time lectureships (Non-Senate).

We are looking for experienced candidates to fill a part-time position teaching policy analysis methods to first-year Master of Public Policy (MPP) students. The course will be fielded in the ten-week Spring quarter of 2024 (early April-mid June) and typically meets twice per week for 75 minutes of lecture and discussion. The course introduces MPP students to policy analysis and, at the instructor’s discretion, might cover topics including logframes, discounting, cost-benefit analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, decision analysis, risk assessment, and program evaluation, as well as how to effectively communicate these different types of analyses.

Responsibilities will include lecturing, conducting regularly scheduled office hours, and the writing and grading of exams and other assigned work. The ability to work cooperatively with other faculty and Department staff is essential.

A PhD in Public Policy, Policy Analysis, Economics, or Political Science is preferred; however, candidates with training in related disciplines and/or exceptional professional experience will also be considered.

See Table 15 Unit 18 Faculty (Pre-Six Year Lecturers) for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is at an annual salary range $64,329 to $72,403, which will then be prorated due to teaching workload based on appointment percentage.

Education, training, professional experience, or other forms of proven expertise in the subject matter to be covered by the course; evidence of experience and success with teaching and other forms of presenting the relevant substantive material to audiences comparable to students taking the course.
