UCLA’s Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics is seeking to fill an Assistant Project Scientist position. The Assistant Project Scientist candidate will perform independent research on molecular and genomic aspect of RNA transcriptional and posttranscriptional regulation.

The Assistant Project Scientist position is a 12 month non-Senate position.

Specific Responsibilities include:

The design and execution of experimental studies on the transcriptional and posttranscriptional gene regulation in the mammalian system.

Additional Duties: (please edit as needed, these are just examples that have been used)

• Oversee undergraduates, graduate students, staff research assistants and new postdoctoral trainees in the lab.

• Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively.

• Ability to work independently on scientific projects.

• Assist with preparation of grant proposals.

• Preparation of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.

• Required to communicate well with other scientists worldwide.

• Candidate should have PhD degree and a minimum of 5 years research experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology and genomics in an academic setting or equivalent.

• Candidate should have extensive experience in recombinant DNA techniques, PCR and cell culturing techniques. Experience in next-gen sequencing technologies is preferred, but not required.

• The candidate will report directly to the Principal Investigator and will successfully carry out experiments and analyze the data generated with minimal to no supervision.

• Ability to handle several projects simultaneously.

• The candidate will be required to complete all appropriate safety training as mandated by the campus’s Environmental Health & Safety Office
