Faculty Position in Observational Astronomy and Astrophysics
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in observational astronomy and astrophysics, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2018. Qualified applicants for associate and full professor positions may also be considered. The Department is seeking outstanding candidates with the potential for exceptional research, the capacity for excellence in teaching, and a clear commitment to enhancing the diversity of the Department. Of particular interest is an individual who can take advantage of the University of California’s investment in the W. M. Keck Observatory (http://www.keckobservatory.org/) and the future Thirty Meter Telescope (http://www.tmt.org/), provide scientific leadership for these facilities, and leverage upcoming observatories such as JWST, LSST, TESS, and WFIRST. This search prioritizes candidates with research programs that include one of the following two areas: the Galactic Center or extrasolar planets. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to capitalize on UCLA’s significant existing resources, such as the Galactic Center Group (http://www.galacticcenter.astro.ucla.edu/), the Institute for Planets and Exoplanets (http://planets.ucla.edu/), and the Infrared Laboratory (https://irlab.astro.ucla.edu/). A Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
