Position description

The Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences, in conjunction with the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA, seeks a full-time academic psychiatrist eligible for appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to participate in the development and expansion of academic and clinical programs in neuromodulation. Responsibilities for the position will combine clinical and teaching attending duties in the treatment of mood disorders as part of the TMS Clinical and Research Program, active participation in ongoing research projects, and development of new lines of research within the Neuromodulation Division. The successful candidate will serve both as an attending physician in existing programs within the TMS Service and a leader in development of novel lines of clinical service, including (but not limited to) inpatient TMS services, community satellite practices, programs in conjunction with the Departments of Neurology and/or Neurosurgery, or services to clinical populations not currently under treatment (e.g., pain, psychosis, addictions). Candidates with interest and experience in translational research, combining pharmacologic and neuromodulation research methods, invasive and non-invasive neuromodulation techniques, use of brain imaging to assess the effects of neuromodulation interventions, or preclinical or mechanistic studies in human or model systems are strongly encouraged to apply. Top candidates will have a demonstrated record of success in competing for extramural support and experience in conduct and supervision of research and treatment protocols.

Prior clinical and/or research accomplishments, evidence of leadership ability, documented expertise in TMS and/or other neuromodulation interventions, postdoctoral training, teaching skills, or other specialized clinical skills will be considered as added qualifications. Candidates must qualify for an Assistant or Associate Professor level faculty appointment at UCLA, possess a permanent California medical license, and be board certified in general psychiatry.

The UCLA Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences is an integral part of The Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA, a leading interdisciplinary research and education institute devoted to the understanding of complex human behavior and the causes, prevention and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders.
