UCLA’s Institute for Society and Genetics is seeking to fill an Assistant Project Scientist position. The Project Scientist candidate will perform independent research on the mechanisms of epigenetic regulation in germ cells.
The Project Scientist will also be responsible for training and supervision of lab members, preparation of manuscripts and grant applications, and development of new projects. The Project Scientist position is a 12 month non-Senate position.

Specific Responsibilities include:
The design and execution of experimental studies on the epigenetic regulation of germ cell chromatin during development and under stress from environmental exposures. The Project Scientist will also advise and assist if need be other lab personnel in these studies. Research, develop, and execute new projects.
• Teach techniques to undergraduates, graduate students and postdoctoral trainees in the lab;
• Work independently on multiple scientific projects and conceptualize new projects;
• Assist with preparation of grant proposals;
• Prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals;
• Communicate with other scientists worldwide;
• Candidate should have 8+ years research experience in one or ideally several of the following fields: germ cell biology, epigenetics and chromatin biology, molecular biology, cell biology, developmental biology;
• Candidate should have extensive experience in recombinant DNA techniques, PCR, cell culturing techniques, epigenetics, bioinformatics, statistics, and data analysis;
• The candidate will report directly to the Principal Investigator and will successfully carry out experiments and analyze the data generated with minimal to no supervision; and
• The candidate will be required to complete all appropriate safety training as mandated by the campus’s Environmental Health & Safety Office.
