Position description

UCLA Lab School is a research-based educational program serving 450 students, ages 4 through 12. The mission is to support children’s academic, social, and emotional development within a diverse society in a way that promotes multilingualism and multiculturalism. Included in this diverse population of children are complex learners who range from children with identified disabilities and who have individual education plans (IEPs) to children who need occasional support and accommodation in the classroom.

The UCLA Lab School is looking for a collaborative and innovative Learning Specialist who is well versed in evidence-based practice pedagogy to assist in the supervision of our complex learner team that includes student support teaching assistants. This individual will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the assistants, providing training and support to teaching staff, overseeing the accommodations for individual students, organizing and participating in specialized group and individual teaching, and coordinating meetings and workshops for the team. The individual will work cooperatively with other team members at UCLA Lab School and with professionals at GSE&IS, and will report directly to the Lab School Principal.

Responsibilities:
1) Develop, and strengthen partnerships with school personnel and LEAP consultants.

a. Develop relationships with teachers in order to support their needs for staff development, student supports.
b. Assist teachers in making appropriate referrals for LEAP supports.

2) Manage the specific program implementation, assignment of staff and follow up of developed programs.
a. Organize LEAP meetings and agenda weekly.
b. Manage teacher referral process, structure observations, and schedule meetings.
c. Provide oversight of the follow up of referrals, data collection, and communication with parents and teachers.
d. Organize trainings for LEAP staff.
e. Supervise LEAP student support staff.

f. Ensure compliance with University, and UCLA Lab School policies.
3) Collaborative teaching in UCLA Lab School’s program as needed.

Qualifications:
• MA in Special Education, School Psychology or related field
• Credentials in Special Education (teaching credential mandatory; BCBA preferred)
• Knowledge of current educational theories and research related to complex learners and children with specific disabilities
• Knowledge of effective inclusive education practices
• A history of working in schools
• Experience as a K-12 school teacher in an urban setting
• Experience managing educational programs
• Preference for Spanish and English proficiency
