Research focuses on investigating the effects of maternal stress and prenatal exposure to antidepressants on adult offspring emotion-related behavior and serotonin neurotransmission. The Andrews’ group also focuses on developing neurochemical methods, i.e., microelectrode voltammetry, aptamer-modified field-effect transistors, and fast microdialysis for monitoring neurotransmission in behaving mice.

Requirements:

  1. Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. with significant postdoctoral neuroscience research experience.
  2. Experience with recombinant DNA techniques including designing and delivering viral vectors for transgenic animals.
  3. Experience with mouse or rat intracranial surgeries and post-operational care.
  4. Experience with in vivo voltammetry, microdialysis, or electrophysiology.
  5. Experience with mouse behavior testing, e.g., elevated plus maze, open field, novelty suppressed feeding, fear conditioning, and mouse colony management, e.g., selective breeding, genotyping.
  6. Experience with biochemical and immunocytochemical methods with cell lines and brain tissue.
  7. Evidence of ability to design and to carry out experiments with minimal supervision.
  8. Strong data analysis skills, e.g., SAS, MATLAB, Photoshop, Imaris.
  9. Excellent scientific/technical writing and communication skills exemplified by a strong record of first-authored publications in quality peer-reviewed journals and scientific presentations at national meetings.

Interested candidates should submit a CV, including a complete list of publications, a brief description of applicable background and interests, and contact information for three professional references. For further information, please contact Anne M. Andrews, Ph.D. at: aandrews@mednet.ucla.edu.
