Position description

The Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology at UCLA is seeking an experienced researcher to join, as a Project Scientist, a laboratory with interests in the development of precision medicine targeted therapies for cancers of multiple origin that share common biochemical characteristics. The research program requires a scientist with wide ranging experience both in designing and carrying out research in several different disciplines, and also in being adept at navigating administrative requirements for successful laboratory operation. Applicants should have good communication skills coupled with a strong publication record. Previous experience in cancer cell line culture, biochemical analyses, high throughput screening analyses, CRISPR gene knockout technology, inducible shRNA development and analyses, animal xenograft tumor studies, non-invasive whole animal imaging procedures are highly desirable, and mass spectrometry that spans into both metabolomic and proteomic analysis, and bioinformatics skill to handle those big data.

Responsibilities:

Maintenance of a range of cell culture samples; biochemical, genomic and metabolomic characterization of cancer cell lines; high throughput screening of compounds, shRNAs, antisense oligonucleotides, etc. to identify combinatorial therapies effective for tumors with shared biochemical properties; monitoring of tumor growth and therapeutic responses by non-invasive imaging procedures; preparation of animal research committee applications, maintenance of environmental health and safety records; developing and maintaining mass spectrometry.
