Position description

The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music seeks an experienced administrator and university-level instructor to be the Assistant Director of Academic Research Academic Research for the newly formed UCLA Lowell Milken Fund for American Jewish Music and to teach School of Music courses. The position is a full-time one-year (12-month) appointment. On average, about 60% time will be devoted to administration, 20% to teaching and 20% to individual research. The appointment will be in one of the three Departments of the Herb Alpert School of Music. A Ph.D. in Musicology or Ethnomusicology is required. It also requires expertise and postdoctoral experience in Jewish Music Research, ethnography and Digital Humanities. The position also requires knowledge of Jewish Studies, specifically liturgical traditions, and archival research experience. Other required qualifications include experience in event coordination and program development.

The Lowell Milken Fund will support research, performance and public engagement activities about American Jewish music. Events will occur at UCLA and elsewhere.
