The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the general area of geotechnical engineering and related disciplines. This position is intended to support ongoing Department growth in the broader thematic areas of Infrastructure Risk Mitigation, Sustainable Urban Systems, and Water Security.
Applicants for the position must have a demonstrated record of excellence or show exceptional promise for high-quality research, teaching, and professional development in geotechnical engineering that could contribute to one or more of the following areas: (a) characterization of natural and/or anthropogenic infrastructure hazards, risk assessment, and risk mitigation; (b) resilience and sustainability of urban systems and critical infrastructure; (c) energy-related applications; and (d) sensing and data analytics of geotechnical systems.
Applications for appointments at any level will be considered (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). Applicants must hold an earned Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, or a closely related field, by the date of hire and should be active researchers with promise in developing and maintaining an extramurally supported research program, publishing and disseminating research findings, and serving as leaders at the forefront of their field. As part of their educational responsibilities, the candidate is expected to mentor undergraduate and graduate students and teach lecture and/or laboratory courses.

The Department hosts highly-selective undergraduate and graduate programs, and is engaged in various research collaborations, both within engineering and with a spectrum of departments and programs at UCLA, across the UC system, and with other universities and across industrial sectors. A major area of programmatic activity and anticipated growth concerns the characterization and mitigation of risk from natural hazards (fire, climate change, landslides, earthquakes, tsunami) to major infrastructure systems. Applicants who can lead and/or participate in major projects in these thematic are especially encouraged to apply.
