Position description

The Cotsen Institute of Archaeology at the University of California, Los Angeles invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral position for the 2024-2025 academic year, with the option to extend for an additional year. We are in search of a recent Ph.D. graduate who has a strong background in the archaeology of the Americas. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate innovative, methodological expertise in areas such as spatial analysis (GIS), faunal analysis, paleoethnobotanical studies, or ceramics analysis. While a specialization in the archaeology and material culture of California is preferred, we welcome applicants with experience across any region or time period in the Americas. This position offers the chance to contribute to a vibrant research community unique among archaeology programs in the United States in its melding of archaeological research pursued beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries.

Qualifications:
This position is for a recipient of a recent PhD degree, earned between 2016 and 2024 (degree must have been completed by June 30, 2024. Candidates must be in residence at UCLA for the full three academic quarters (July/September, 2024- July/September, 2025), and should not plan for any extended absences during this period. If the successful applicant is a non-US citizen or permanent resident, the recipient will be responsible for submitting all needed paperwork for a U.S. visa in time for arrival in the U.S. at the stipulated starting date of the fellowship.

  • Proposal - A short proposal for a graduate seminar of a 10-week UCLA quarter (max. 1 page)
