Position description

The Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology the University of California, Los Angeles, seeks applicants for an Assistant Project Scientist position.

Salary range : The posted UC salary scales (https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/compensation/2023-24-academic-salary-scales.html) set the salary range for this position. See Table 37B: Represented Project Scientists Series, Fiscal Year

Duties : Successful candidates will be expected to publish results in scientific journals and present results at national and international meetings. Successful candidates will perform the following if hired (including but not limited to):

• Fish care and maintenance
• Aquaculture procedures
• Write grants for federal and private organization in consultation with the PI
• Cryosectioning
• Fish tissue extractions and processing
• Histology (including but not limited to : immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, hybridization chain reaction, Nissl stain, and H&E stain)
• iDISCO and E-Z Clear
• Fluorescent microscopic imaging
• Lightsheet imaging
• Western blots
• Spatial transcriptomics using the 10X Genomics Xenium Analyzer
• Present findings to the lab
• Write and submit manuscripts
• Train laboratory members on all of the above duties when necessary

Qualifications : The candidate must hold a PhD in a biology or biology-related field and additional training in neuroendocrinology or a related field . The candidate must have at least three years of research experience beyond the PhD, with demonstrated ability to conduct and publish high-level research on behavioral neuroscience, behavioral neuroendocrinology, neurobiology, and animal behavior. Familiarity with issues pertaining to research on different teleost species, aquaculture, and fish housing facility maintenance is strongly desired. Extensive knowledge and expertise with histological techniques including immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, hybridization chain reaction, iDISCO, E-Z clear, and antibody validation ; spatial transcriptomics using the 10X Genomics Xenium Analyzer ; fluorescent microscope imaging ; western blots ; PCR ; and training others on all of the above procedures are required.
