Position description

The UCLA Department of Radiation Oncology is recruiting a highly motivated individual for a medical physicist faculty position as an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, rank commensurate on experience. The successful candidate must be board certified by the ABR or ABMP or have graduated from a CAMPEP-accredited therapy physics residency program by the time of hire. This candidate will provide on-going clinical physics support and quality assurance for treatment planning, IMRT, IGRT, machine commissioning, maintenance and QA, brachytherapy, and other general clinical physics tasks. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the department’s academic mission, including but not limited to development and implementation of new radiation oncology techniques, publication of results in peer-reviewed manuscripts, and presentation at national and international conferences. The candidate will support teaching and supervision of medical physics residents within the CAMPEP-accredited UCLA Radiation Oncology therapeutic medical physics residency program and pre-doctoral candidates within the CAMPEP-accredited UCLA Physics and Biology in Medicine Ph.D. Graduate Program. The ideal candidate will have the appropriate skills and interest to develop an externally funded research program. Candidates with interest and expertise in external beam treatment planning, as well as interest in contributing to the Department’s active and rapidly growing MRI-guided radiotherapy program, are especially encouraged to apply.

Our unique clinical department is recognized nationally for cutting-edge research and technology in the treatment of all types of malignancies. Our innovative approach in the treatment of various malignancies is a complement to our medical physics and radiation biology divisions.

The Department of Radiation Oncology currently has four sites: a main campus equipped with three conventional linear accelerators (Varian TrueBeam, Novalis Tx, and TomoTherapy HD) and the ViewRay MRI-guided IMRT linear-accelerator-based MRIdian system, a second campus in Santa Monica equipped with Varian TrueBeam and Varian STx accelerators, a third campus in Santa Clarita with a Varian Ethos, and a fourth campus in downtown Los Angeles with a Varian EX. The main campus recently installed a Siemens Drive Dual-Source CT simulator and Siemens Sola 1.5T MR simulator. The physics group supports an active Brachytherapy program that employs Varian and Elekta HDR systems and the Airo TruCT portable CT scanner. EBRT treatment Planning systems include Eclipse, iPlan, TomoTherapy, Brainlab Elements, and ViewRay supported with MIM and ARIA record-and-verify.
