Position description
The Division of Digestive Diseases in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA are seeking an advanced researcher at the Assistant Project Scientist level with extensive experience in autophagy-related research in mammalian liver. This individual must have completed 5 years of postdoctoral research in the field on autophagy with a deep understanding of the
different forms of autophagy and how these relate to hepatic pathophysiology. The individual is expected to creatively initiate a program that studies distinct autophagic mechanisms into the regulation of hepatic lipid metabolism with a focus of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease and its progression. This candidate must be experienced with methods including and not limited to isolation of various autophagic, lysosome and late endosomal, and lipid droplet fractions from mouse livers using density gradient centrifugation, and use of Seahorse Respirometry to determine hepatic energetic states. The candidate must also be able to analyze and interpret said data and use these to generate new ideas and hypotheses to move the project/field forward. The project will focus on identifying new mechanisms leading to defects in lysosomal fat droplet turnover. The candidate will report to Dr. Rajat Singh and will have access to all of the resources and reagents in the Singh lab to accomplish the work. A Ph.D. is required.
