Position description
Assistant Professor faculty position (tenure track) in the Department of Statistics and Data Science at the University of California, Los Angeles. We seek outstanding applicants contributing to the cutting edge development of fundamentals of data science, including general statistical modeling and methodology, causal discovery and inference, generative data science, interface between statistics and AI, and other areas.
We welcome applicants whose experience in research, teaching and service have prepared them to contribute to UCLA’s commitment to excellence and diversity. Ph.D. or Ph.D. candidates in Statistics (or a closely related field) are welcome to apply. Ph.D. in Statistics (or a closely related field) required at the time of appointment.

The Statement of Contributions to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion briefly addresses past and/or potential contributions to diversity through research, teaching, and/or service.
This search is sponsored by DataX, a campus-wide initiative to improve data science by strengthening our robust, diverse and cross-disciplinary community of evidence and data-driven scholars. DataX aims to enable, empower, enhance, and coordinate existing capabilities across campus. The Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost has sponsored this search in order to recruit exceptional scholars whose teaching, scholarship and service strengthen fundamental data science in the disciplines. Faculty hired through this search are expected to be active participants in the DataX community, so building inclusive data-centric research and education across the UCLA campus.
The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See Table(s) 1 The salary range for this position is $78,200 - $101,400 annually. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.
