Position description
The Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA currently has an opening for an academic researcher to join the research lab of HELEN LAVRETSKY, MD, in the DIVISION OF GERIATRIC PSYCHIATRY (at the junior, mid-level, or senior rank). We are looking for an enthusiastic, resourceful, and dedicated investigator to lead a funded project designed to understand the neural mechanisms underlying real-world self-movement in relation to episodic knowledge formation in humans. The researcher will take a leadership role in the design of metrics, data analysis, and interpretation of findings from this novel study. This will also include overseeing data collection and preparation and completion of data-based reports for presentations and publications. The researcher will directly advise and train undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral trainees in experimental design, data validation, and data analysis. Thus, the applicant should have some demonstrated experience supervising students. The researcher will report directly to the laboratory director.
This position is designed for an established researcher with demonstrated expertise in quantitative neuroscience, biostatistics, or related disciplines. The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in a quantitative field and have extensive research experience in developing and applying methodological approaches to investigate the neuropathology of the human brain. Candidates must have an extensive publication record in peer-reviewed journals, including multiple first-author or senior-author publications, with a focus on cognitive aging, Alzheimer’s disease, depression, and related neuropsychiatric conditions. Demonstrated experience in assisting with grant proposal development is essential, as is the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary research teams spanning psychiatry, neurology, neuroscience, and neurosurgery.
Salary and corresponding rank and step is dependent on the candidate's professional experience, research record, and accomplishments. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 13B https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2024-25/july-2024-scales/t13-b.pdf. Interested applicants must submit a i) cover letter outlining academic interests and a brief statement about contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion, ii) curriculum vitae with bibliography, and iii) contact information for three potential references to the application portal at https://recruit.apo.ucla.edu/apply/JPF10078.
