Position description
Assistant Project Scientist - Stephen Smale Lab
UCLA’s Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics is seeking to fill a full-time Assistant Project Scientist position. The Assistant Project Scientist candidate will perform independent research on the regulation of inflammatory gene transcription in macrophages. The Assistant Project Scientist position is a 12-month non-Senate position.
Specific responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Lead a research project focused on gene regulation during inflammatory responses in macrophages.
- Perform various specialized experimental procedures in support of research projects, including genomic and biochemical analyses.
- Perform bioinformatic analyses of genomics data.
- Conduct literature reviews to be used in determining most suitable research methods.
- Review available technology and assist in bringing appropriate new technology into the laboratory.
- Present research findings at scientific meetings.
- Prepare manuscripts for publication.
- Train others in specialized research protocols and complex processes.
- Mentor undergraduate researchers.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. (or equivalent) in immunology or a related discipline.
• Four or more years of postdoctoral training.
