Position description

The Visual and Performing Arts Education Program (VAPAE) in the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture offers an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental series of courses designed to introduce undergraduates to the key issues and methodologies in the field of arts education for multiple publics and to a broad range of possible career paths including teaching artistry, K-12 classroom teaching, museum education, socially-engaged arts practice, creative arts therapies, and arts advocacy.

VAPAE is committed to creating a diverse pool of candidates for potential part-time teaching positions in arts education during each academic year. Currently, VAPAE is interested in meeting qualified candidates to teach its Arts Ed 109 – Design/Media Arts Methods for the Teaching Artist course.

The purpose of this course is to provide opportunities for students who identify as designers or media arts artists to build skills in teaching and curriculum design for a variety of settings. The class will instruct and engage students in a range of strategies, materials and techniques for teaching artists, including poster & graphic design; text & typography; animation, claymation & stop action; 3-D digital techniques; digital photography; filmmaking & video collage; music, audio & sound effects; and creative social media content creation strategies.

Minimum Qualifications: MA required, MFA or PhD preferred; relevant professional experience
