Position description

The Assistant Project Scientist will be a research scientist in the laboratory of Prof. Juli Feigon. This involves research in molecular and structural biology of RNA-protein complexes, specifically 7SK RNP and its role in HIV-1 transcription and telomerase. The research scientist must have experience and skill with cell-line engineering by CRISPR-Cas, RNA structure probing experiments such as DMS and SHAPE-Map, protein and RNP purification, experience in bacterial, insect, and human cell culture, immunofluorescence (e.g. RNA FISH), cell reporter experiments, and biochemistry methods. The assistant project scientist will be conducting research, writing manuscripts, and assist in writing research proposals. The assistant project scientist will work independently in designing experiments and determining priorities. The position requires a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field with at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience.

Specific Responsibilities include:

Supervision of laboratory personnel, and in particular the lab helper. Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively. Ability to work independently on scientific projects. Ability to collaborate well with other scientists. Ability to prepare manuscripts for publication in scientific journals. Ability to train students and other researchers on methods used in the laboratory.
Ability to maintain biochemistry and molecular biology laboratory equipment.
Ability to make decisions about the purchase of equipment and materials needed for research in the laboratory.

Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field with at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience.
