Position description
The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at UCLA is seeking a qualified candidate for an Adjunct Assistant Professor position to direct pre-clinical and translational research at the intersection of sex differences, vascular biology, and heart failure in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). This role requires a strong investigator who will furthermore manage collaborative projects with multidisciplinary research teams and industry partners, mentor trainees at the graduate- and post-graduate levels, as well as track record of competitive extramural grant funding. Additionally, the candidate will oversee regulatory compliance, including IACUC animal protocols, lab inspections, and environmental biosafety standards. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in molecular biology in the cardiovascular science field.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications
• Ph.D. degree in molecular biology, with a focus on cardiovascular disease
• Extensive background in both pulmonary and systemic vascular biology, alongside deep expertise in myocardial biology and the molecular mechanisms of left- and right-ventricular failure. This includes but is not limited to in vitro models (isolation of adult cardiomyocytes and cardiac fibroblasts, isolation of primary vascular cells, co-culture models), and in vivo models (chronic angiotensin/isoproterenol infusion, myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury, atherosclerosis) .
• Proven background in sex differences research within cardiovascular disease, with a focus on the preclinical models of pulmonary arterial hypertension (Sugen/Hypoxia, Monocrotaline, Bleomycin, diet-induced PH) in sex-dimorphic genetic rodent models (Four Core Genotypes and Sry-modified rats).
• Direct experience analyzing clinical datasets combined with effective project management and cross-functional communication with clinical research investigators.
• Direct experience with effective project management and cross-functional communication with industry partners.
• Proven track record in securing competitive extramural funding, alongside demonstrated excellence in mentoring, teaching, and supervising research trainees (graduate students and postdoctoral fellows).
• Regulatory & Administrative Compliance: Direct experience with writing, managing, and overseeing animal utilization protocols (IACUC/DLAM) and Biosafety protocols, in addition to managing triennial renewals, regulatory inspections such as controlled substances/DEA, and maintaining strict compliance with laboratory biosafety and environmental health standards.
